New Sterilization Campaigns in San Cayetano, Avellaneda |
![]() |
On May 23, a sterilization campaign took place in the San Cayetano neighbourhood with the collaboration of Buen Amigo de Gerli , as there are many unsatisfied needs. 43 female dogs and cats were sterilized while many others received and/or continued with their anti-mange treatment. Every Saturday we make a follow-up of diverse cases and survey those animals who need immediate assistance. |

We hope to continue working in the same zone to go on collaborating with those who need us by performing –in the short and long terms- awareness-raising campaigns as to sterilization as well as responsible keeping of pets. We thank Buen Amigo de Gerli for helping us again, to the authorities of the Club de Madres Nuevo El Arroyo for
receiving us and all those who collaborate to make this campaigns possible. |

Why do they have to be castrated?
This dog is under veterinary treatment as it has a tumor in the genital area from the penis to the anus. He is taking medicine and when he stabilizes, he will be duly operated on. Had he been castrated, the chances of suffering from this tumor would have been much less and maybe the story would have been different. In order to prevent the emergency of this type of tumors; not only female dogs are sterilized, who are prone to tumors of the uterus and mammary glands, but also male dogs are castrated. Be aware of the benefits of sterilization/castration. Consider that besides preventing their reproduction, you are improving their quality of life. Help them by castrating/sterilizing them in a responsible manner.
Annual Draw for Our Abandoned Dogs Vaccination: Homage to Samurai
Short Story about a Puppy called Maximo with a Happy End:
He was Adopted and Now Lives in a Home.
Maximo was abandoned months ago in Dominico Park located in the city of Avellaneda . He was not only abandoned with his little brothers on the streets but he also is suffering the consequences of that abandonment.
When he was youger than one year old, he suffered the distemper after-effects in his back legs -tics in his legs- so he walks with difficulty. He was seriously ill and now is more stable, taking medicine and the neurological damage its under study. With a lot of years ahead of him, Maxi is the new victim to which this disease attacked in Dominico Park . Distemper puts the lives of the most unprotected animals in risk, including 10 old dogs who have long been waiting for a family.
In summer, infections are our everyday problems; now with the coming cold weather, our main concern is distemper, as there are 90 abandoned animals who live there and its surroundings living in the open.
We do not want Maximo nor these little stray animals to have the same fate as Samurai. He is still waiting while many others are waiting to receive their vaccines to face this winter more protected against the risk they are exposed to.
We thank Ana Echevarria and Irene Marthos for thinking about our abandoned dogs again so as to make this draw. Below you will see the details provided by Ana on regards the prizes, savings account for that end and contact e-mails to participate.
Samurai was abandoned being a little puppy at Dominico Park on February 2007. He was completely weak due to malnutrition and mange. He also had legs with infected wounds so he lost some of his toes.
His treatment was long and difficult was he could overcome it up to the time in which cold weather and distemper unfortunately appeared. Samurai did not have the necessary defenses and the enemy was stronger. To prevent the loss from being a defeat, short after Samurai´s death, APAC organized a very successful charity collection which could therefore avoid another sad reason. In 2008, thanks to a draw we organized for that purpose, these animals could finally receive their vaccines. This year the vaccination is again an emergency. Animals abandonment at Dominico Park is an everyday practice so we try to prevent Samurai's story from
repeating on the weakest. So, we launch this draw.
